World-class Belgian partners joining us in R&D phase

We have reached out to different high end partners to develop our revolutionary technology that generates waves to surf on. With our background in the wave energy sector, we understand the hydrodynamics of waves as the same laws apply to the absorption and creation of waves. To have a clear idea of what different levels of surfers expect, we have enlisted the support of Lakeside Paradise.  Founding father and surfing pioneer Frank Vanleenhove brings in years of surfing experience worldwide and extensive knowledge on surfers’ expectations of man-made waves.

“After chasing the wave pool evolution for many years all over the world, AllWaves appeared as a real revelation with unique and never before seen technology. Both sustainable and safe, AllWaves produces waves for everybody in a more natural environment than any other system.

AllWaves also presents a realistic financial plan when it comes to construction and commercialisation.

AllWaves will blow the minds of the surfing world and beyond!

After Belgian Beer and waffles, it is now time for Belgian waves!”,

The Vydraulics Group (VAPO) is a strong player in hydraulic power systems. They are a high-end partner with an international track record in the maritime industry. The offshore sector is characterised by high performance demands. VAPO understands the cost of failure, so they make sure energy efficiency, safety, high reliability, and sustainability are top of mind when designing and executing operations. Moreover, the group is also active in the leisure industry and understands our requirements in terms of delivering uptime guarantees to our clients.

Additionally, we can count on the Coastal & Ocean Basin (COB), a consortium of the Universities of Ghent and Leuven and Flanders Hydraulic Research Institute) to support us in the field of knowledge sharing and in-depth experiments. They have provided the scientific grounds for the AllWaves reef setup.

This collaboration initiative is facilitated by Blue Cluster, an independent Belgian organisation that groups private companies with the purpose of developing and promoting economic activities linked to the sea. Blue Cluster is recognised as a spearhead cluster by the Flemish government and focuses on several aspects of the sustainable blue economy, including blue tourism.

We furthermore receive financial support from Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship, a Flemish government agency charged with implementing the economic, innovation and enterprise policy in Flanders.

Successful collab with SIOEN Industries Group

The heart of our technology is a high-tech textile submerged in the centre of the surf pool. This sophisticated tailormade textile, is designed in collaboration with SIOEN Industries Group, world leader in technical textiles. The result is a highly durable pillow that can withstand the high demands of our dynamic application, ensuring long-life use.

“We immediately considered this collaboration as a chance to demonstrate our customer-focused approach. We are active in maritime & marine sectors and see this new and fast-growing industry as a very exciting opportunity.

Now we are proud to say that along with divisions of the SIOEN Industries Group, we have succeeded to develop and produce a unique, ready-to-install membrane that meets all the requirements to produce world-class waves”

Youri Braeckman, General Manager Coatex, SIOEN Industries

The profile of this pillow can be adapted very precisely, pulling water towards it, or pushing water away from it. This action creates swell at the water’s surface. Depending on the wave type selected, the membrane is situated between from 2.5 to 4 meters depth at a safe distance from the surfer. The pillow itself is a soft structure without grids, nets, ropes, or other components that could pose risks for entanglement with a surfer or surfboard.

The water column moves in sync with the up and down movement of the membrane so very little impact results when a curious surfer attempts to exchange a surf session for a diving session!

The collaboration was encouraged by POM West-Flanders, the government agency that supports the economic development in the province West-Flanders. With a view to innovation, POM West-Flanders stimulates cooperation between companies via ‘Fabrieken voor de Toekomst’. The organisation wishes to support short-term and practice-oriented innovative cooperation projects between companies. The aim of the call is to accelerate a concept (product / technology / service) that is still in the idea phase to the pilot phase to proceed with development and / or testing.

“We supported the cooperation between Sioen Industries Group and AllWaves as both companies bring in specific knowledge to create this new application”, says Stefaan Verhamme, (Cluster Manager New Materials) “We believe in the upcoming markets both companies are aiming at world wide”.

Major step towards opening show room

We are more than proud with the support we receive from the community of Knokke-Heist, Belgium. Today, the installation of the high voltage cabins is a fact. This is a major step in demonstrating our technology to the world. The construction of the basin of 100 by 100 started in August 2021 and is ready for the next steps. With the grid connection we now can proceed with the installation of our machine and run the necessary dry tests before filling the basin with water.

In Knokke-Heist, innovation and sustainability are high on the agenda. Besides, we are the surfing municipality par excellence,” says Mayor Piet De Groote. “AllWaves’ innovative and unique project immediately appealed to us. We are very pleased that the test facility will be opening in spring to demonstrate the uniqueness of the technology. Network operator Fluvius went in search of the right electrical capacities and just realized the electricity connection. That is an important technical milestone to be able to showcase the technology.”

We plan to open our show room in spring. Belgian surf pioneer Frank Vanleenhove, founding father of the famous water sport clubs Surfers & Lakeside Paradise, brings in his surfing experience together with international experts representing the surfer’s community. They will help us in further fine tuning the waves profiles for all levels of surfers.

Of course, potential clients from all over the world are welcome to personally experience their favourite waves.
